La Croix de Cantereau

The Janoueix family settled in Bordeaux in 1898, originally establishing themselves in Margaux before moving to Libourne, near Saint-Émilion, where their estate overlooks the Dordogne River. With dedication, patience, and integrity, they expanded their holdings, now spanning over 100 hectares across nine appellations, including Pomerol, Saint-Émilion, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Montagne Saint-Émilion, Lalande de Pomerol, Fronsac, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur, and Sauternes. Committed to tradition while embracing innovation, François Janoueix continues to refine and elevate the quality of its wines.

 

Among these, La Croix de Cantereau, produced at Château Cantereau, stands out as a historic emblem of Pomerol’s winemaking excellence. Grown on clay limestone soils and benefiting from ideal sunlight, the Merlot-dominant blend achieves optimal ripeness, delivering rich and velvety depth. The wine’s label features the Maltese Cross, a symbol of historic pilgrimages through Pomerol. La Croix de Cantereau presents a brilliant ruby hue, with an aromatic bouquet of ripe black fruits, including black cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant. These lush fruit notes intertwine harmoniously with herbal nuances and enticing vanilla, creating a complex and inviting profile. The well structured body, smooth tannins, and lingering oak infused finish contribute to a refined and long lasting palate.
