Sofia Araya, the head winemaker of Primus, was born and raised in Chile. During her university years, she gained experience as a winemaker at Casa Lapostolle in Apalta, Colchagua Valley. After graduating from the University of Chile, she spent four years at Luis Felipe Edwards in the Colchagua Valley, followed by a role at Aresti Vineyards in the Curicó Valley. In 2009, Sofia became Assistant Winemaker at Viñedos Veramonte, where she developed a signature winemaking style focused on elegance and finesse.

Primus Winemaker is crafted from handpicked grapes sourced from the finest vineyards of Apalta. This exceptional terroir, surrounded by native forests, sits at the meeting point of the Andes and Coastal Mountains, creating a uniquely complex soil composition. The vineyards are organically farmed, thriving in well drained clay and rocky soils, which enhance vine strength and produce concentrated fruit flavors. The Mediterranean climate, with moderate summer temperatures and abundant winter rainfall, ensures optimal ripening, resulting in harmonious and elegant wines. The 2018 vintage was an outstanding harvest year in Apalta, yielding high quality grapes. Primus Winemaker is a sophisticated blend of Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, aged 14 months in French oak barrels. The wine exudes bold and refined aromas, featuring ripe red fruit, blackberries, and hints of spice such as pepper and cedarwood. Its full-bodied structure, combined with silky tannins, leaves a lingering, mesmerizing finish that captivates the palate.
