CHÂTEAU LATOUR – THE GREAT WARRIOR OF PAUILLAC

Château Latour is one of the most renowned wine producers in Bordeaux and the world. Located in the southeastern part of Pauillac within the Médoc region, it holds the prestigious First Growth (Premier Grand Cru Classé) ranking from the 1855 Classification.

Recognized as one of the most sought after and expensive wineries on the planet, Château Latour crafts wines with powerful structure and remarkable aging potential, capable of evolving beautifully over decades.

This site has been occupied since 1331, originally serving as a fortress and garrison to protect the estuary. Small households began planting vines and producing wine from this period, a practice that was later recognized by Montaigne in the early 16th century.

The development of Latour remained uninterrupted for centuries under the Ségur family, who took ownership in 1670 and maintained control for 290 years. However, following the French Revolution, the estate was divided and remained fragmented until it was fully reunited in 1841.

The estate has been owned by French billionaire François Pinault since 1993, under the stewardship of his parent company, Groupe Artémis. During these years, significant changes have been implemented in the relentless pursuit of excellence in wine quality.

In 1998, Frédéric Engerer was appointed as director, initiating major transformations for the estate. He oversaw the complete renovation of the cellars, the establishment of a highly skilled technical team, and the implementation of a winemaking philosophy deeply rooted in environmental respect and sustainability.

Benefiting from a mild oceanic climate, the perfect combination of clay and gravel soils creates an exceptional environment for the growth of the region’s noble grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.

With unwavering dedication to winemaking, they have masterfully combined traditional methods with modern innovations. The vines are carefully pruned and harvested entirely by hand, ensuring the finest fruit selection. The wines then undergo extended aging in oak barrels, allowing them to develop layered aromas and remarkable depth of flavor. To this day, Château Latour remains the benchmark for Pauillac wines and a true icon of Bordeaux winemaking.
