CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD – THE LEGENDARY WINERY OF PAUILLAC

Château Mouton Rothschild, the crown jewel of Pauillac, is located 30 miles (50 km) northwest of Bordeaux. This esteemed estate is recognized as one of the world's most prestigious and expensive wineries, renowned for producing some of the richest and most powerful wines in all of Bordeaux.

The estate originally bore the name Brane-Mouton and was among the finest châteaux in Bordeaux throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries. The Rothschild family acquired the property in 1853, renaming it and swiftly restoring its prestigious reputation. In 1922, Baron Philippe de Rothschild took control, bringing his expertise and passion to revitalize the estate. He restructured the vineyards, redesigned the label, and led Château Mouton Rothschild to unprecedented heights of success.

The estate spans 84 hectares (207 acres) of vineyards, stretching across gently sloping hills that rise to 27 meters above sea level. The vines are densely planted at approximately 10,000 vines per hectare, with an average age of 44 years, rooted in deep, gravelly soils that epitomize the region’s finest characteristics. Renowned for its predominant use of Cabernet Sauvignon, Mouton boasts an abundance of tannins, intense aromatics, and exceptional aging potential. These qualities contribute to its classification as one of the finest wines of Pauillac.

Everything at Mouton, from vine cultivation to winemaking, is overseen by the finest experts in the field. Through years of dedication and refinement, the estate has remained true to traditional winemaking methods while embracing modern techniques to craft wines of the highest caliber, an unwavering commitment that perfectly embodies its motto: I, Mouton, do not change.”
